Collaborating with “Il Giovane” (The Young One)

One of the key pillars of United Rising is Inclusivity.
In this context, the interaction of young people’s input in policy-making is essential to increase diversity in our current governance model. The young see the world from a different angle and are frequently more aware of issues pertaining to inclusion, equity, and diversity.

From this premise, is born our collaboration with “Il Giovane” (The Young One). Il Giovane is an Italian Think Tank, writing and training organ of “Movimento Giovani” (Youth Movement) – an association that addresses issues related to the new generation in Italy, through an extensive network of associations, organizations, and institutions.

Il Giovane is unique in that it is the first Think Tank in Italy that is exclusively composed of young individuals. Their motto is “Organize, aggregate, amplify”, and their mission is to organize and aggregate young Italians to amplify their voices in education and employment.

Through research, writing, and training, Il Giovane aims to provide young people with the tools and knowledge they need to engage in policy-making and advocacy – making a positive impact on their communities and society as a whole.
More specifically, il Giovane promotes education and engagement among young people by providing them with analytical training, ultimately aimed at the production of monthly reports on issues that are crucial to the young generations in Italy. Their reports address a wide range of subjects, such as education, employment, social justice, etc. The key goal is to help young people to better grasp the complexities of policymaking and campaigning, by bringing them closer to the most recent data and analysis on topics that matter to them.

Ultimately, the quantitative and qualitative analysis produced by the team of Il Giovane acts as a base for Il Movimento Giovani, aiming to become a non-governmental or party-based reference center for youth policies in Italy.
Similarly to lobbying practices, Il Giovane seeks to influence policy-making and decision-making processes. However, being a non-partisan organization, the organization does not seek to advance the agenda of any particular political group. Instead, they work to promote the interests of young people in general and to encourage greater engagement and participation in the policy-making process.

This month, Il Giovane addressed the theme of sustainability and is currently publishing articles to promote environmentally conscious choices. On this occasion, United Rising and Il Giovane are collaborating to support each other in our mission to advocate greater respect for our planet.

Currently, United Rising is working on a report that tackles how young people relate to environmental challenges. Increasingly, policies are being developed to foster the empowerment of young people toward these paramount topics. Therefore, the report will evaluate on one side how young generations perceive environmental challenges and, on the other, to which extent the tools and policies are sufficiently tailored to support youth in this context.

Il Giovane will be a valuable support in the development of our projects. Their team will provide insight into existing policies’ effectiveness and recommend new approaches or strategies that could better support youth’s engagement and empowerment on these issues.

Building an inclusive model of governance is certainly a challenge as well as an opportunity. This is why UR’s collaboration with Il Giovane is a valuable asset to promote greater diversity and integration within our system and our model of governance. Together we can give a more unified voice to the youngest generations and collaborate with other realities, previously disconnected.
