Kickstarting our Story Telling Initiative

We are happy to announce the kickstart of our storytelling initiative!

Our initiative begins with a genuine invitation to co-create with Indigenous representatives. This is why we maintain an open-ended approach to our project objectives, seeking to align not only with our organization’s mission but also with the needs and aspirations of Indigenous communities.

Abstract

Promoting a sustainable future that embraces inclusivity and equity is a core mission deeply rooted within United Rising. As an embodiment of this mission, the Intersectional Environmentalism campaign aims to bring the marginalized voices of Indigenous peoples to the forefront while highlighting the intertwined issues of their specific social injustices and environmental challenges. These challenges weigh on the Indigenous peoples disproportionately and often involve patterns of inequality, discrimination, and subjugation tracing back to structural disparities such as colonialism and capitalism.

The storytelling initiative of this campaign coincides with the importance of storytelling tradition in Indigenous cultures. As a synthesis of rich history, truth, and Indigenous Knowledge, United Rising recognises the power of storytelling to bind generations together and keep the communal values and narratives intact through the ages. By adopting Indigenous storytelling as its methodology – a deeply embedded practice in Indigenous cultural and social fabric – this campaign seeks to foster collaborations that acknowledge the invaluable expertise encapsulated in Indigenous paradigms and contribute to facilitating the process of decolonisation.

Through storytelling, we aim to achieve the following: to elevate the Indigenous peoples’ narratives to strengthen the momentum for their empowerment and participation in different spheres of governance; to promote inclusive environmental justice while critically analyzing the mainstream and State-centric paradigms of sustainable development; and to raise awareness on the interconnected dimensions of climate change and social injustices of Indigenous peoples through an intersectional lens.

To foster a collaboration that challenges and redefines these intersectional challenges of the local communities in a truly cooperative and unaffected spirit, this project is purposefully left open-ended to accommodate sufficient room for stakeholders’ insights and participation.
